We present the near-infrared (NIR) luminosity and stellar mass functions of galaxies in the core of the Shapley supercluster at z=0.048 based on the new K-band observations carried out at the United Kingdom Infra-Red Telescope with the Wide Field Infrared Camera in conjunction with B- and R-band photometry from the Shapley Optical Survey. We examine environmental effects on galaxy properties, showing both luminosity (LFs) and stellar mass functions (SMFs) in three regions selected according to the local galaxy density. We find different behaviours of the LF and the galaxy SMF with the environment suggesting that the mechanisms transforming galaxies in different environments are related to the quench of star-formation rather than to mass-loss.
