The paper analyzes the role that community enterprises can play in the tourist development of marginal urban areas. In this perspective, it examines a case study dedicated to Rione Sanità, a popular and disadvantaged neighborhood, a so-called bad place, located in the historic center of Naples. In a short period, the area has undergone a radical transformation, becoming an important tourist destination, a laboratory of social innovation, a model of urban regeneration at national and international level. What are the reasons for this success? Who are the agents of the transformative process? What are the evolutionary scenarios and the impacts of the pandemic emergency?
