This review summarizes current knowledge on sediment dredging to control eutrophication. Emphasis has been given to the effectiveness and environmental impacts of dredging, the release of nutrients from sediment, and the response of cyanobacterial bloom after dredging. Dredging is an effective method, although its effectiveness is mainly dependent on the external load. This method can improve lake conditions by reducing the TP, TN, Chl-a, P-flux, SRP flux, and cyanobacterial bloom. An important emphasis must be focused on maintaining external loading. Combining dredging with other restoration methods, such as LMB addition, is often more effective than dredging alone.

Abstract
This review summarizes current knowledge on sediment dredging to control eutrophication. Emphasis has been given to the effectiveness and environmental impacts of dredging, the release of nutrients from sediment, and the response of cyanobacterial bloom after dredging. Dredging is an effective method, although its effectiveness is mainly dependent on the external load. This method can improve lake conditions by reducing the TP, TN, Chl-a, P-flux, SRP flux, and cyanobacterial bloom. An important emphasis must be focused on maintaining external loading. Combining dredging with other restoration methods, such as LMB addition, is often more effective than dredging alone.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
