This article analyzes the topic of the freedom of expression in the cyberspace, taking into account the relationship between such freedom and hate speech. The essay is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the relationship between cyberspace and freedom of expression. The second part is dedicated to the examination of the conflict between freedom of expression and hate speech in cyberspace, through the analysis and the comparison of the international regime safeguarding the freedom of expression with international law concerning hate speech. The third part focuses on the role of both States and private companies in order to assure the exercise of freedom of expression and, at the same time, to contrast hate speech on the Internet.
