The aim of this contribution is to offer a preliminary insight into a recent language contact situation between Italian and other East Slavic languages: Ukrainian and Russian. The encounter of different linguistic and cultural realities in former “monolingual” areas of the EU has become fertile ground for this kind of research. Here we shall outline the main characteristics of the massive Ukrainian, and to a lesser extent, Russian presence in Italy. I will likewise analyze a small percentage of the approximately fifty lexemes which have entered, more or less steadily, into Ukrainian and Russian migrant speech. Since the first language impact was inevitably with the administrative-legal sphere, the language samples reported in section two have also been derived from this domain.
