Mizhdialektni ukrajins'ko-bilorus'ki kontakty pry tvorenni surzhyku na pivnichnomu zachodi Chernihivs'koji oblasti (Міждіалектні українсько-білоруські контакти при творенні суржику на північному заході Чернігівської області)

Prior to the present contribution, we tried to demonstrate that dialects play a considerable role in the formation of local varieties of prototype (or, basic) Suržyk. In this paper we illustrated some of the most salient characteristics of the kind of Suržyk spoken in the North-Western Černihiv Region, where the situation is even more complex in consequence of the Belarusian contacting dialects. Particular attention was paid to the speech used in the area around the Rypki district, especially to the small town of Zamhlaj. A concise contrastive approach of the main phonetic/phonological and morphological characteristics of standard Ukrainian and Belarusian, and their respective transitional dialects (along the Ukrainian-Belarusian dialectal continuum) was necessary, in order to highlight, and at times separate, pure dialectisms from Suržykisms. Lexic was only sporadically considered.
