The Women, Peace and Security Agenda was formally initiated by the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000), which affirmed the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peace-building initiatives. Over the years, the Security Council has encouraged UN Member States and other relevant actors (e.g., regional organizations) to develop action plans on the integration of gender perspectives in humanitarian operations and the specific constraints facing women in post-conflict situations. The aim of this paper is to scrutinize the EU’s commitment to the global promotion of the Agenda’s goals in its external action and also its ambition to play a leading role in gender equality.

Abstract
The Women, Peace and Security Agenda was formally initiated by the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000), which affirmed the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peace-building initiatives. Over the years, the Security Council has encouraged UN Member States and other relevant actors (e.g., regional organizations) to develop action plans on the integration of gender perspectives in humanitarian operations and the specific constraints facing women in post-conflict situations. The aim of this paper is to scrutinize the EU’s commitment to the global promotion of the Agenda’s goals in its external action and also its ambition to play a leading role in gender equality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
