The paper starts from the analysis of the main and most recent Anglo-American references in the field of critical librarianship, in Italian language ‘biblioteconomia critica’, understood as the reflection and application of social justice in librarianship. The concept of decolonization is then analyzed as it has been studied by Italian librarianship, with particular reference to collections management and cataloging. The focus of the paper is the reflection on the relationship between critical librarianship, social librarianship and sustainable librarianship to identify the points of contact between these declinations of the discipline, and to finally demonstrate that a contemporary librarianship, beyond attributes and labels, cannot be unrelated to racial and gender issues, social justice, equity of access, lifelong learning, environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Abstract
The paper starts from the analysis of the main and most recent Anglo-American references in the field of critical librarianship, in Italian language ‘biblioteconomia critica’, understood as the reflection and application of social justice in librarianship. The concept of decolonization is then analyzed as it has been studied by Italian librarianship, with particular reference to collections management and cataloging. The focus of the paper is the reflection on the relationship between critical librarianship, social librarianship and sustainable librarianship to identify the points of contact between these declinations of the discipline, and to finally demonstrate that a contemporary librarianship, beyond attributes and labels, cannot be unrelated to racial and gender issues, social justice, equity of access, lifelong learning, environmental, economic and social sustainability.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
