The Vita Aesopi Lolliniana is the only Latin version of the Aesop Romance, a fictional Greek biography of the great fabulist. The text, preserved at fols. 48v-62v of MS Belluno, Biblioteca Lolliniana Gregoriana, 26 (14th century), was first and last edited by Ben E. Perry in 1952. Considering both textual and manuscript evidence, this paper gives some new insight into the text, particularly for what concerns its date of composition and the style of the Latin rendering. In the last section of the paper, a fresh look at the Belluno manuscript allows to detect some problems in Perry’s critical edition of the text, and to propose some new solutions.

Abstract
The Vita Aesopi Lolliniana is the only Latin version of the Aesop Romance, a fictional Greek biography of the great fabulist. The text, preserved at fols. 48v-62v of MS Belluno, Biblioteca Lolliniana Gregoriana, 26 (14th century), was first and last edited by Ben E. Perry in 1952. Considering both textual and manuscript evidence, this paper gives some new insight into the text, particularly for what concerns its date of composition and the style of the Latin rendering. In the last section of the paper, a fresh look at the Belluno manuscript allows to detect some problems in Perry’s critical edition of the text, and to propose some new solutions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
