The coastal and maritime tourism is considered a strategic sector for many territories, constituting a complementary or even dominant source of income for its inhabitants. However, its spatial dynamics are strongly conditioned by the intensity and seasonality of flows that generate effects on the localized distribution of enterprises. The paper analyzes the spatial distribution of active firms operating in the coastal and maritime tourism sector in southern Italy. The coastal and maritime tourism firms were identified in forty economic activity classes covering primary, complementary and auxiliary activities in coastal municipalities. Therefore, this study provides a starting point for studying the blue economy in the “Mezzogiorno” of Italy and outlining new tourism development policies.
