The essay examines the affairs of the city of Salerno between the end of the Swabian period and the Angevin period, with a specific focus on economic and commercial structures: the annual fair, the port and the arsenal. Established by Manfred of Swabia, the fair and the port were the object of particular attention especially by Charles I and Robert of Anjou, but in general the Angevins knew how to exploit Salerno’s economic potential, which had been progressively consolidated since the last Lombard period and in the Norman period, making the city a mercantile center of fair importance in the reigning context. The essay also delves into the interests that gravitated around the annual fair, both secular and religious-ecclesiastical, such as to determine a continuous climate of conflict, but also examines Salerno’s military function in the Angevin period, particularly during the Angevin-Aragonese conflict. The analysis is concluded with a quick overview of other city structural features from an urban and religious-cultural perspective

Abstract
The analysis is concluded with a quick overview of other city structural features from an urban and religious-cultural perspectiveI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
