This article focuses on one of the political subcultures that has developed in recent years, namely, the «cancel culture» and its interconnections with the processes of platformization, information and democratisation. In order to achieve this, an attempt will be made to clarify the theoretical confusion that exists both about what it actually means – it is often considered synonymous with wokeness and call-out culture, or even with political correctness – and when it actually developed and what its real effects are within digital society.

Abstract

This article focuses on one of the political subcultures that has developed in recent years, namely, the «cancel culture» and its interconnections with the processes of platformization, information and democratisation. In order to achieve this, an attempt will be made to clarify the theoretical confusion that exists both about what it actually means – it is often considered synonymous with wokeness and call-out culture, or even with political correctness – and when it actually developed and what its real effects are within digital society.
