Existing masonry buildings are often in need of strengthening interventions, and several technical solutions have been recently developed for this purpose. Among them, the use of textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) composites has gained consensus as a technically viable and economically convenient option as a strengthening technique. The present paper aims at investigating the mechanical behaviour of TRM systems made by lime-based matrices and natural fabrics (Jute or Flax textiles). The study moves from the mechanical characterisation of fabrics and the mortar as well as the tensile response of the natural TRM (NTRM) systems under consideration. Finally, some numerical simulations are proposed for their possible application as an innovative and sustainable seismic system retrofitting and strengthening technique for existing masonry structures.
