The recent industrial history of Southern Italy has been strongly conditioned by the season of extraordinary intervention in strategic sectors for the national economic development. Many of these investments, both public and private, continue even today to be considerably important; although in the context of a manufacturing sector, that remained weak and in which the already known limits of the national industry (average size of employees, lower presence in sectors with higher added value, etc.) are more evident. The absence of a clear industrial policy strategy runs the risk of compromising even those companies that today are most exposed to technological frontier and international competition.

Abstract
The recent industrial history of Southern Italy has been strongly conditioned by the season of extraordinary intervention in strategic sectors for the national economic development. Many of these investments, both public and private, continue even today to be considerably important; although in the context of a manufacturing sector, that remained weak and in which the already known limits of the national industry (average size of employees, lower presence in sectors with higher added value, etc.) are more evident. The absence of a clear industrial policy strategy runs the risk of compromising even those companies that today are most exposed to technological frontier and international competition.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
