Abstract

Scientific advances in biology, genomics and epigenetics, the spread of biomarkets, as well as the diffusion of holistic approaches in individual health practices are different expressions of the contemporary sociological relevance of the organic body. This paper aims to advance a theoretical framework to study the different ways social subjects take care of their intrinsic vulnerability by managing their biological capital, as an internal resource that - together with the other forms of capital identified by Bourdieu - influences human biographies.
