The outbreak of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war (24.02.2022), like any other exceptional events and as an unexpected extra-linguistic factor, has caused a series of cultural-linguistic alterations primarily in the Ukraini-an society but indirectly affecting other cultures and languages. These changes are most evidently reflected in the lexis. In this three years period, the military vocabulary related to warfare has been significantly enriched. A series of bor-rowings, neologisms as well as changes in meaning (semantic shift) of already existing lexemes can be noted in everyday language usage. In this contribution we highlight some of the most frequent loanwords and neologisms with paral-lels in other European languages, mainly concerning war realia. As it will emerge a few lexemes underwent, in specific socio-pragmatic contexts, a se-mantic shift. The selected examples are based on social media and a popular Ukrainian war song.
