Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an evolving area of study with potential to impact public policies and services across various domains. Its advancements have garnered attention from researchers and practitioners, revealing opportunities for its integration in public sector. However, the societal impacts of AI are widely debated but not well understood. As AI progresses and becomes more integrated into society, its potential to reshape public policy formulation and service provision remains substantial. Thus, understanding the potential effects of AI is crucial for informed decision-making and responsible deployment in the public sector. The present study aims to propose a framework for the adoption of AI systems in public administration according to the guiding principles of the NPS. Adopting an empirical approach to analyse specific AI-based application use cases within the public sector the work seeks to provide a more in-depth understanding of which conditions, rules, and capabilities the public sector should implement to safely leverage AI technology. The research findings highlight various solutions, such as multidisciplinary education, collaboration, and ongoing assessment, that are necessary to ensure AI advancements align with societal values, ultimately fostering a positive impact on communities and beyond. This study, emphasizing the need for further research and exploration, offers both theoretical and practical insights, providing guidelines for the safer implementation of AI applications within the public sector.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
