This study investigates the intersection of rhetoric and specialized language in journalistic discourse, with a focus on the use of stylistic figures in newspaper headlines. The corpus consists of front-page headlines from the French daily Le Monde. After outlining the historical development of rhetoric—particularly in the French context—and its relevance in today’s media landscape, the study examines the nature of written news and techniques specific to journalistic language. A rhetorical analysis of the headlines follows, emphasizing how such devices inform, engage, and persuade readers. The research is grounded in both linguistic and didactic perspectives, aiming to reveal how rhetorical features can support language learning and critical reading skills in educational contexts.
