In this paper we present a selection of three chapter from the book Teaching Mathematics as Storytelling, by Rina Zazkis and Peter Liljedahl (2009), in which they highlight that approaching difficult mathematical concepts with the mediation of stories allows for the active involvement of students in the construction of mathematical meanings and fosters deep under-standing. The authors also provide interesting and multiple examples of how to rework familiar stories, turning simple textual problems found in school books into captivating storytelling prompts and classroom activities. This abstract, the introduction to the three chapters and their translation are edited by Angela Donatiello.
