Abstract

Athletes, coaches, managers, fans: the world of sports has been variously portrayed in Italian cinema from the 1930s to the present day. This paper investigates how, through the representation of different figures of professional sports—most frequently football—the heterogeneity of authors, poetics, formats, and genres in Italian cinema has contributed to depicting the evolution of social customs, norms, collective values, conflicts, and cultural practices.
