The compression task is based on a trade-off between the time spent and the size reduction obtained. In most cases, it is assumed that this task is performed with a single, efficient, compressor, ignoring possible applicable time optimizations. In some cases, this assumption is wrong: for example, when there are resource or time limitations that make an optimization of the compression process necessary. In this work we deal with lossy image compression and study the case where this compression process is subject to a limited time constraint. Our objective is to optimize data compression efficiency while operating within constrained computational resources, especially under strict time constraints.

Abstract
The compression task is based on a trade-off between the time spent and the size reduction obtained. In most cases, it is assumed that this task is performed with a single, efficient, compressor, ignoring possible applicable time optimizations. In some cases, this assumption is wrong: for example, when there are resource or time limitations that make an optimization of the compression process necessary. In this work we deal with lossy image compression and study the case where this compression process is subject to a limited time constraint. Our objective is to optimize data compression efficiency while operating within constrained computational resources, especially under strict time constraints.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
