The Ms Rome, Angelica 1388 contains marginal and interlinear notes on Virgil’s Aeneid. These provide clear and certain evidence of Pomponius Leto’s commentary on the Aeneid, despite being fewer in number than those in the Pomponian one. Furthermore, there are many notes which are not found in what is certainly the exegetical corpus elaborated by Leto on the Aeneid and witnessed above all by the Mss Oxford, Bodleian Library Add. C 136 and Oxford, Bodleian Library Canonicianus Classicus Latinus 54 and by the print edition edited by Daniele Gaetani (Daniel Caietanus) between 1487 and 1490. This contribution aims to study the commentary on the Aeneid (partly Pomponian) handed down by Ms Rome, Ang. 1388, and to highlight its most important aspects (also those interesting for our understanding of Virgil’s text). The samples will be taken mainly from the commentary on book II of Virgil’s poem.
Il Ms 1388 della Biblioteca Angelica di Roma contiene note (marginali e interlineari) all’Eneide di Virgilio. In esse è possibile riscontrare tracce evidenti e sicure del commento di Pomponio Leto all’Eneide. Questo manoscritto, però, ci presenta un corredo di note molto più esiguo e scarno di quello pomponiano. Inoltre molte note non trovano riscontro in quello che è sicuramente il corpus esegetico elaborato da Leto sull’Eneide e testimoniato soprattutto dai codici Oxford, Bodleian Library Add. C 136 e Oxford, Bodleian Library Canonicianus Classicus Latinus 54 e dalla stampa curata da Daniele Gaetani (Daniel Caietanus) tra il 1487 e il 1490. Questo contributo si propone di studiare il commento all’Eneide (in parte pomponiano) tramandato dal Ms Roma Ang. 1388, illustrandone gli aspetti salienti (anche quelli interessanti per la nostra comprensione del testo di Virgilio). Gli esempi saranno tratti soprattutto dal commento al libro II del poema virgiliano.
