This essay aims to propose a postmodern interpretation of the video game, conceiving it as a socio-cultural device capable of making manifest — while at the same time sedimenting — the dynamics of liquid modernity. From a Baumanian perspective, the analysis is structured around three interdependent issues: identity, narratives, and the consumption of lives. It follows the hypothesis that the video game does not merely reflect these logics, but rather co-determines their form through ordinary gaming practices and processes of valorization of lived time.
