The contribution offers a reading of Canto VI of Dante’s Purgatorio, approached primarily from a legal perspective, identifying political fragmenta- tion, local identity, and Providence as its main in- terpretative keys. Starting from Dante’s invective against Italy and Florence, the analysis explores the role he assigns to the Empire and to law as in- struments of justice, stability, and peace. The dis- cussion then turns to the relationship between Dante’s political thought and Aristotle’s, with par- ticular attention to the ideal of universal monar- chy and to possible affinities with the Letter to Al- exander on the Government of the World.

Abstract
The contribution offers a reading of Canto VI of Dante’s Purgatorio, approached primarily from a legal perspective, identifying political fragmenta- tion, local identity, and Providence as its main in- terpretative keys. Starting from Dante’s invective against Italy and Florence, the analysis explores the role he assigns to the Empire and to law as in- struments of justice, stability, and peace. The dis- cussion then turns to the relationship between Dante’s political thought and Aristotle’s, with par- ticular attention to the ideal of universal monar- chy and to possible affinities with the Letter to Al- exander on the Government of the World.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
