After World War II, with the world divided into two major blocs following the Truman Doctrine and U.S. military aid programs (militarization), anti- communism grew stronger and spread to Latin America. In this paper, we aim to highlight the emergence of anti-communism as an ideology underpinning national- developmentalist models in the dictatorships of the Southern Cone (Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina) during the 1970s. To this end, using a corpus of legal norms (laws, decree-laws) and military communiqués, the study employs the methodology of critical discourse analysis developed by Norman Fairclough, whose approach is rooted in the concepts of ideology and common sense.

Abstract
After World War II, with the world divided into two major blocs following the Truman Doctrine and U.S. military aid programs (militarization), anti- communism grew stronger and spread to Latin America. In this paper, we aim to highlight the emergence of anti-communism as an ideology underpinning national- developmentalist models in the dictatorships of the Southern Cone (Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina) during the 1970s. To this end, using a corpus of legal norms (laws, decree-laws) and military communiqués, the study employs the methodology of critical discourse analysis developed by Norman Fairclough, whose approach is rooted in the concepts of ideology and common sense.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
