The screening of a range of other archaebacteria, using a rapid isolation and purifn. procedure for trehalose, indicated that this disaccharide is present in a no. of halophilic archaebacteria, thermophilic and sulfur-dependent archaebacteria, and methanogenic archaebacteria.
