Giordano Bruno, interprete “infedele” di Lullo

Giordano Bruno is probably exposed to Raymond Llull’s works during the years he spends in the monastery of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples. The Nolan promptly realizes that the Ars Raymundi constitutes a method (the potential of which was unknown even to its deviser himself) to improve human capabilities. Bruno therefore introduces elements and schemes meant to expand the scope of the Llullian artificium (used by the Doctor Illuminatus mainly to convert the infidels) in his commentaries, enabling those who use them correctly to acquire universal knowledge. In Bruno’s hands, the artes of the Mallorcan turn out to be extremely powerful tools, capable of increasing memory, making rhetoric compelling and logical arguments irrefutable.
