Fighting against false politicians who followed an amoral Reason of State, because founded on atheist teaching, the Jesuit Father Luigi Giuglaris argued for a way of government based on the precepts of Christ and the Church. Teaching Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy, gave Giuglaris the opportunity to furnish the best practices for managing the State. Giuglaris’ treatise not only shows God’s ‘political rewards’ to morally good actions made by the prince, but also stresses the relationship between soul salvation and socio-political success and it emphasizes that the public interest coincides with the prince’s utility. The condition for salvation is a political conduct in agreement with the Church; moreover, the richness of the prince can make the difference in keeping an advantageous relationship with the aristocracy.
