Following a brief introduction to the current inclusive philosophy orienting educational policy and practice, this book looks into how higher levels of inclusion could be promoted in educational settings. Considering that due to decentralisation, schools are held more accountable than ever for the wellbeing and academic performance of their students, theoretically-grounded interventions need to be implemented in order to provide evidence of success, or otherwise, of such programmes. The adoption of theories and models stemming from a variety of fields of research and applied in health promotion research and programme planning, is suggested as a possible route to plan, implement and evaluate school initiatives. The choice is underpinned by Antonovsky’s salutogenic model of health which orients the focus on what moves the individual towards ease and ability, thus considering the individual holistically within a bio-psycho-social perspective.
