The Moscow Kamerny Theatre: Dance and Movement At the beginning of the twentieth century, avant-garde theatre comes to see dance as a key source of renewal and exploration of a new form of body expression. This article aims to highlight the importance of dance for the theories and experimentation of Aleksandr Tairov, founder of the Moscow Kamerny Theatre. Furthermore, this work retraces his collaboration with two innovative choreographers, Mikhail Mordkin and Kasyan Golejzovsky, and the hand they had both on stage and in the laboratory connected to the theatre. The article concludes with the outcomes of this collaboration, particularly by analysing the reviews written by French and German critics, who praised the plasticity and fluidity of the movements acquired by the Kamernyj actors they saw on stage during the first European tour of 1923.

Abstract
The Moscow Kamerny Theatre: Dance and Movement At the beginning of the twentieth century, avant-garde theatre comes to see dance as a key source of renewal and exploration of a new form of body expression. This article aims to highlight the importance of dance for the theories and experimentation of Aleksandr Tairov, founder of the Moscow Kamerny Theatre. Furthermore, this work retraces his collaboration with two innovative choreographers, Mikhail Mordkin and Kasyan Golejzovsky, and the hand they had both on stage and in the laboratory connected to the theatre. The article concludes with the outcomes of this collaboration, particularly by analysing the reviews written by French and German critics, who praised the plasticity and fluidity of the movements acquired by the Kamernyj actors they saw on stage during the first European tour of 1923.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
