The essay analyzes some common elements between Tommaso Campanella’s City of the Sun and the first Lutheran utopia: the Reipublicae Christianopolitanae descriptio (1619), by Johann Valentin Andreä. Although using Campanella’s work as a primary source, in his Christianopolis Andreä included some motives in defense of Lutheranism, motives which are deeply polemical towards the Church of Rome.
