Forme del suolo e figurabilità del Paesaggio Urbano Storico

The natural shapes and characteristics of the place where architecture is located and from which it is conditioned represents an important factor of imageability to understand the meaning of the whole, the constitutive elements and their relationships. The contribution investigates these issues, also through the narration of a survey and urban design experience carried out on the theme of regeneration and enhancement of a part of the old town of Cassano Irpino, a small city in the province of Avellino, located on a wooded hill overlooking the upper Calore river valley. The key of the project-oriented survey is the relationship between the soil shapes and the urban form; a relationship that becomes the fundamental trait of a synthetic and operational description that aims to tell and take possession of the identity of the place as a necessary moment in the process of identifying the design questions.
