The development of new technologies (The internet 3.0, immersive cartography, three dimensional web, metaverse and increased reality, 3D environments, etc.), represents a strategic and functional opportunity besides that of knowledge, the representation and interpretation of the geographical reality, also to promote territorial enhancement actions regarding tourism and multi-level and multiscaled shared participation of geographical categories of the environment, history and landscape, in line with international, European and national programming. The Authors, starting from the project “Itineraries to discover the waters of Italy” created by the Interuniversity Association Research Group GECOAGRI LANDITALY and funded by ACEA S.p.A., reflect on the new theoretical and applicative potential offered by the new tools to geographical and cartographic re- search. Thanks to innovative technological tools and devel- oping an original methodology of operational analysis, the project has in fact enhanced the environmental, economic, social and cultural value of the water resource. With the help of historical cartography and numerous documentary sources, both published and unpublished, 10 interactive totem-stations have been created that illustrate many tourist itineraries avail- able in the middle and lower Velino valley. From each location, through a QR code, you can go on a meta-tour: observe landscapes and spaces that are difficult to reach and obtain multi- disciplinary information from the various interactive contents.
