The essay explores the relations developed by Alberto Savinio, at the time living in Paris on the fringes of the “Soirées de Paris” circle, and the New York Gallery 291, headed up by photographer Alfred Stieglitz. In the space of just a few months, between 1914 and 1915, thanks to the mediation of the poet Guillaume Apollinaire, the dealer Paul Guillaume and the Mexican writer and caricaturist, Marius De Zayas, a particularly auspicious moment arose for the young pianist cum-music critic to become part of America’s avant-garde. A number of new and unanticipated collaborations emerged and took shape (articles, lectures, concerts, plays), many of which were interrupted by the outbreak of war and the de Chirico brothers’ move to Italy.
L’intervento ricostruisce le relazioni intessute da Alberto Savinio, allora residente a Parigi e gravitante nel circolo delle “Soirées de Paris”, con la galleria newyorkese 291 diretta dal fotografo Alfred Stieglitz. In pochi mesi, tra il 1914 e il 1915, si crea un momento particolarmente propizio per l’ingresso del giovane pianista e critico musicale nell’avanguardia statunitense, grazie alla mediazione del poeta Guillaume Apollinaire, del mercante e collezionista Paul Guillaume e dello scrittore e caricaturista messicano Marius De Zayas. Da questi incontri nasceranno alcune nuove e inattese collaborazioni (articoli, conferenze, concerti, pièces teatrali), molte delle quali destinate a interrompersi con lo scoppio della guerra e il trasferimento dei fratelli de Chirico in Italia.
