The paper explores the tourism potential of Campania’s rural districts (DIRs), new governance spaces recently recognized by the Region and included in the National Register of Food Districts (L. 205/2017). How significant is the tourism sector in district strategies and stakeholder discourse? Which districts prioritize tourism as a catalyst for local development? To address these research questions, we employ a comprehensive, integrated methodology, that combines a context analysis based on geostatistical data with a qualitative analysis of policy documents (project schedules, district plans, reports, etc.), complemented by an examination of district websites and social network. We conclude that tourism does not seem to be a current priority in district strategies. In the planning documents and in the stakeholder’s discourse, this issue is addressed in a generic way, without identifying specific instruments or lines of action.
