The church of San Giorgio, located in the historic center of Salerno, not far from the Cathedral of San Matteo, represents an interesting example of historic construction site’s longue duree. Despite the building is in fact one of the most interesting architectural expressions of the Baroque in the town, the design and the start of dome’s work can be dated to the late sixteenth century. In this sense, within the broader research on Renaissance domes, the essay focuses on the phase of the "intentio operis" of the original project of the dome, analyzing its forms, materials and alterations occurred over time.
