Abstract

The author addresses the public use of history starting with a preliminary refection on audiovisual media. The case of the television series Briganti, produced by Netfix, is then proposed. The author analyses the narrative model adopted and the debate triggered by the launch of the series. The scriptwriters’ choice to use the format of the Italian western is proposed as a counter-narrative of the war on brigandage. Fiction stages the reversed perspective of the history of the “vanquished” following in the wake of neo-Bourbon publications.
