La lunga strada dei BRICS. Origini, consolidamento, la questione del tempo e il modello di stato-nazione.

The essay, starting from the interesting case of the BRICS, aims to offer a reflection on the theme of the evolution of global relations: from the bipolar system to the multilateral system, to (widely claimed) multipolarism. It also reflects on the changes linked to the concept of the nation-state: what is the prevailing model or what is perceived as suitable and replicable by international actors in the current global system? It is worth emphasising, as we shall see, that the process we are witnessing, on the one hand, has its origins in the decisions taken in the aftermath of the end of the bipolar system, particularly in the area of economic relations, and, on the other, in the vacuum created in the east and south in the aftermath of the implosion of the Soviet Union.

Il saggio, partendo dall’interessante caso dei BRICS, vuole offrire una riflessione sul tema dell’evoluzione delle relazioni globali: dal sistema bipolare al sistema multilaterale, al (da più parti rivendicato) multipolarismo. Esso riflette anche sui mutamenti legati al concetto di stato-nazione: qual è il modello prevalente o quale viene percepito come adatto e replicabile dagli attori internazionali nell’attuale sistema globale? È opportuno sottolineare, come vedremo, che il processo a cui stiamo assistendo, da un lato, trova origine nelle decisioni assunte all’indomani della fine del sistema bipolare, in particolare nel settore delle relazioni economiche, dall’altro, nel vacuum che si viene a creare a est e a sud all’indomani dell’implosione dell’Unione Sovietica.
