This essay aims at investigating the role played by the American Catholic world with respect to the Vatican strategies of reaction to the spreading of Protestant proselytism in Latin America, from the 1920s to the 1950s. The main thesis from which this study moves is that a peculiar type of «Catholic Monroeism» has been developed in that context and that it can be framed within the overall pattern of the Vatican effort to counteract the Evangelical progresses in that part of the world during the pontificates of Pius XI and Pius XII.
