This paper explores the cognitive metaphor TIME IS SPACE in the interlanguages of learners of Italian as a second language (L2), combining theoretical reflections, preliminary empirical observations, and pedagogical applications. After outlining the process of temporal spatialization as a cognitive strategy grounded in embodied experience, the study presents preliminary insights from the CoMetaI project, based on the analysis of learner corpora. The data appear to suggest that learners may draw on spatial schemas to express temporal relations, producing structures that can be situated along a continuum ranging from target-like forms to acceptable uses and non-standard realizations. These phenomena are interpreted not as isolated errors, but as possible manifestations of dynamic interlanguage processes. Building on these observations, the paper outlines two teaching proposals for primary and secondary education, which aim to leverage conceptual metaphor as a cognitive resource and an inclusive tool for supporting the development of linguistic competence in Italian L2.

Abstract
Building on these observations, the paper outlines two teaching proposals for primary and secondary education, which aim to leverage conceptual metaphor as a cognitive resource and an inclusive tool for supporting the development of linguistic competence in Italian L2.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
