Trade unions are key players in shaping the green transition. Regarding the shift towards electric vehicles, Italian metalworkers’ unions have, from the outset, held differing views on the timing and methods of the transition, as well as on the issue of so-called technological neutrality. This paper analyses the position of the major Italian trade unions regarding the green transition in the automotive sector and addresses the main issues and challenges relating to employment, training and reskilling that emerged from a study involving workers and union representatives from a sample of companies in the automotive components sector, against a backdrop of profound reorganisation within the Italian automotive industry and its supply chain.

Abstract
Trade unions are key players in shaping the green transition. Regarding the shift towards electric vehicles, Italian metalworkers’ unions have, from the outset, held differing views on the timing and methods of the transition, as well as on the issue of so-called technological neutrality. This paper analyses the position of the major Italian trade unions regarding the green transition in the automotive sector and addresses the main issues and challenges relating to employment, training and reskilling that emerged from a study involving workers and union representatives from a sample of companies in the automotive components sector, against a backdrop of profound reorganisation within the Italian automotive industry and its supply chain.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
